Meet Our Grooming Team –
We started the chat with Stacey;
Stacey – I have always loved animals and wanted to do some form of work with them so I thought about a career as a veterinary nurse but just couldn’t go through with some of the procedures involved with the job, so I chose to go into grooming.
Becky – I have had a few different jobs but I have always had a strong passion for animals but especially for dog’s so, I decided to focus my attention towards animals and went down the route of grooming.
What breeds have you groomed?
Stacey – Obviously, there are a lot of breeds I’ve groomed over the time, but a few examples are; Yorkies, Shihtzus, Westies, Cocker Spaniels, German Shepherds, and Huskies.
Becky – I have worked on a lot of mixed breeds and small to large dogs but a couple of breeds are Staffie’s, Great Danes, Huskies, and Shihtzus.
When did you realise your passion for grooming?
Stacey – I first noticed that I really enjoyed grooming when I was around 16-17 years old and I had a work placement for my two-year course at college. It was working in the grooming salon that I realised I had a real passion for grooming.
Becky -I have always had a passion for dogs but I really started to notice my grooming passion when I got my voluntary job in a grooming salon on my days off and I knew grooming was for me.
What would you say is the hardest part of grooming?
Stacey – Personally, I think the most challenging part of grooming is having a dog that hasn’t had any previous grooming history, so trying to get them in a comfortable position in an environment they aren’t used to is the hardest challenge but once you build the trust between yourself and the dog it becomes easier.
Becky – The obvious problems are when the dogs haven’t got any grooming history but also when the dogs don’t like you cutting their nails and try to bite you.
What Qualifications have you got?
Stacey – I have a 1st Diploma in Animal Care, National Diploma in Animal Management and a City & Guilds level 3 Grooming certificate.
Becky – I currently have a level 2 City & Guilds grooming certificate and I’m currently working towards my level 3.
What do you enjoy the most about grooming?
Stacey – The thing I enjoy the most when grooming is bathing the dogs and seeing how cute they look with the suds around them.
Becky – There are lots of enjoyable moments with grooming, from looking at the animals in the bath to playing after, but the one thing I enjoy the most is the satisfaction you get from seeing a happy customer impressed with the service we have given.
