This blog is going to teach you how to effectively organize the household and keep your pets calm during Halloween and Firework season.
To kick-start things off, the easiest thing dog owners get wrong is bringing their dog to answer the door to Trick or Treaters. It’s best to keep them calm and quiet in a safe room while you answer the door. For the owners that have outdoor animals, we recommend bringing them indoors or keeping them locked away in their safe housing. For cat owners make sure they are indoors and do not allow them to roam the streets during the night.
Have you got a nervous pet, one who doesn’t like fireworks or strangers at your door, and you don’t know what to do to help them keep calm? Look no further!
Read below to see a wide range of products, treatments, and remedies that can help your pet with keeping calm around Halloween and Firework Season.
Canine Partners have an acronym that will equip you with the knowledge on how to keep your pets calm.
R: Reduce outside noise in your house by closing windows and curtains and turning on a television or radio
O: Occupy pets with games or toys, this acts as a great distraction
C: Calm and quiet behaviour should be rewarded, anxious and worried behaviour should be ignored
K: Keep calm yourself – your anxiety can transfer to your pet
E: Early walks before it gets dark and evening activities get going
T: Timeout and safe area: pets often find their own safe place where they feel secure
This technique isn’t going to work 100% of the time especially if you are a new pet owner so we have a few products that will almost guarantee success.
Preparing for these changes now will benefit your dog around Halloween and Bonfire night. Introducing them to a ‘safe place’ where they can go to when they are scared. Create a safe space for them to go to, create an area using blankets, their toys, a couple treats to keep them occupied. Thinking ahead now might save you the stress later!
Cats can be a little bit more difficult to control at this time of the year. Cats seem to go anywhere they want to, when they want too. However, similar to dogs, providing them with safe space that they can go to can be beneficial. Providing them with new catnip and toys can help with creating that perfect space for your cat for when they need it most.
We hope that we have equipped you with the knowledge and the right products. If you are new to the pet world and don’t have much experience with animals, make sure you don’t overreact and get stressed because your pet will sense it and start to act out, furthermore enjoy yourself and make sure you get involved!
